Jose Muyir and alumnus Hassan Muyir '03. This past December while many
were preparing for finals, 限限Ali, a twenty-year-old, Biology major,
suffered a great tragedy.  While on his way to work late at night on
December 18, he tripped off the icy platform and fell into the tracks
at one of the "F" train stations in Brooklyn.  Ali survived, but
unfortunately, he lost both of his legs and suffered injury to his
head and right ring finger.  Ali's life was miraculously spared.  He
is well, jovial, and hopeful that he will return to class in September
2010. His hospital and healthcare costs are overwhelming for his

PLS T-shirt Sales @ Next Grand Rounds

The Pharmacy Leadership Society (PLS) has created an exciting and fun pharmacy t-shirt.  Please see the attached photo for the design (located at the back of the shirt). Note, that the LIU logo is also on the front of the t-shirt and the design in personalized for our very own Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy. It comes in a rich navy blue color with white text...very trendy!  It's available in all sizes including XS, S, M, L, and XL.  The cost is only $10! So you can buy one for yourself and buy one for loved ones as
gifts. Please only pay with cash. If you would like to purchase one of these great  pharmacy t-shirts, please contact me or PLS-treasurer, Mary Mettias.

We will be selling the t-shirt during next Grand Rounds on February 26th, so please bring money in order to purchase them!

Scholarship funds

Let's help fund a scholarship for the next year

I have confirmed with Dr. Rivkin that grand rounds will be over at 1pm on Tuesday. For those students who have Ambulatory I orientation, that
will begin at 3pm. I just wanted to clarify this for everyone.
Also, I wanted to give everyone a heads up about something I will be announcing on Tuesday during Grand Rounds.

There is an 8 year ongoing tradition that the graduating class funds a scholarship and the scholarship goes to a pharmacy student the
following year. Throughout the semester, Tram and I will be collecting funds. The usual goal is $1000 or more if it is raised. Patrick
Campbell has informed me of this ongoing tradition and I would hate to break it. Unfortunately, the gift amount is $20 and it is a great deal
to ask. I am aware of this and for that, I deeply apologize. We will be collecting at every grand rounds so please do not think you must
have it ready come Tuesday. Also, you have the right to contribute or not to contribute. It is not mandatory. I wanted to make the clear.

On a positive note, the Class of 2010 Scholarship will be announced at Commencement by the Dean and for each student that contributes, his or
her name will be inscribed on a plaque that is outside Patrick's office, across from the Dean's Office. I think it is wonderful that a hard working pharmacy student like ourselves will be rewarded a scholarship from the Class of 2010 next year.

So on that note, I will be collecting beginning Tuesday. We will be unable to pass an envelope around because I must write down each
student's name. Please see myself or Tram during rounds and we will make sure your name has been added to the list.

Have a great weekend,
Jessica
